(The picture shows the creative posters distributed by each groups to encourage students to attend the EMTECH seminar series.)
This seminar series was launched in July 14,2012 with the presentation of two Microsoft Student Partners. Coincidentally the seminar of these two groups has a similar topic. The first seminar was about "Windows 8" while the second seminar was about "Windows Phone 7 Development". It is not surprising that they made a joint poster which has a windows theme. (See below)
Seminar 1 - "Windows 8"
The "Windows 8 seminar" was held at ISR on 8:00-9:30am. The speaker was a Microsoft student partner. He was from Adamson University and he mainly discussed about the "Eight things about Windows 8".
From what I learned in the seminar, these are the 8 things and their meaning. 1) Windows re imagined. it means that windows 8 contains fast search capabilities and it supports mouse and keyboard functionality. 2) All the apps you want. It means has a lot of built in apps as Mail, Calendar, SkyDrive, Photos, People, and Messaging. 3) Cloud-connected. It means that files are accessible everywhere and it is connected to people and apps. 4) Get more at the Windows Store. It means with a sign in your live account, you can download apps from your account. 5) Re imagined browsing with IE10. It means having lesser browser, more on web. 6) Built for business. It means its new possibilities for mobile productivity, virtualization and management is fitted for business. 7) Great experience across all hardware. It means in tablets to laptops it can be used. 8) Built on a solid foundation. It means that it is fast, compatible and protected
Aside from these 8 things on windows 8, he shared about the live tiles where it gives the user easy access to their mail, calendar and social networking sites. And also, he shared that picture password exist where in to indicate the password, you just have to tap on the picture.

Seminar 2 - "Windows Phone 7 Developments"
The "Windows Phone 7 Development" seminar was held at ISR on 9:40-11:10am. The speaker was also Microsoft student partner. She was from Tristan International College and she mainly discussed about the "Seven things to remember about Windows Phone 7".
The seven is divided into 2 parts.
a) The 2 Smart Designs
b) The 5 Hubs
The 2 Smart Designs
She told us that the 2 smart designs are Glance & Go Experience and Do More in Less Steps.
I learned that the first one, the glance & go experience, means that the "live tiles" (which was also mention by the 1st speaker of the seminar series) can contain ‘live’ information that is dynamically updated from the cloud. This gives the user the key information and notification in one glance. The advantage she told us was it is less stop and stare and more glance and go.
I then learned the second one, the do more in less steps. It means it only uses minimal buttons with a single click. Its design to have less searching and more finding.
The 5 Hubs
She also told us that the 5 hubs are People Hub, Picture Hub, Office Hub & Email, Music + Video Hub and the Games Hub.
From what I learned in the seminar, these are the 5 hubs and their meaning. 1) People Hub. It means all the contacts & communications are found in one place. Advantage would be less out-of-touch and more in-the-know. 2) Picture Hub. It means easy sharing of pictures from social networking sites. Advantage would be less missed it and more got it. 3) Office Hub & Email. It means that all your office activities in one place. Advantage would be less doing and more done. 4) Music + Video Hub. It means that it easily transfer media files between the phone and pc. Advantage would be less pause and more play. 5) Games Hub. It means that it has avatar & achievements, turn-based games. Advantage would be less time out and more game on.
Aside from this seven things, she shared what metro is about. She said that metro is clean, light and fast and is focused on the content. She also said that metro helps organize information and application which is why metro is good.

Closing of the seminar series
The seminar series ended with the last speakers, all the preparations and hard work of students paid off. The students made a great job in finding a credible speaker. They made sure that the room would definitely accommodate the number of attendees, and that the technologies to be used would be made available for the speaker's convenience. The students also prepared token of appreciation and certificate for the invited resource speaker, and made a guest list or attendance sheets. In order to access and learn from the seminar conducted, the students also prepared evaluation forms/ feedbacks from audience and they made documentations and compilation of pictures of the seminar. Overall the EMTECH seminar series was worth it, I learned a lot and it was a good experience.
